Police have revealed that the 27 suspects in the brutal rape of a\n15-year-old girl in Sampang Regency maintained a digital chat group on\nWhatsApp, which they named \u2018Teh Gembul\u2019.<\/p>\n
Sampang Police Chief AKBP Hartono said the WhatsApp group was\ndeliberately created as a means of communication for the rape\nsuspects.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is true, they created a group. Its name was Teh Gembul, their\nWhatsApp group,\u201d Hartono said, as quoted by detikJatim on Sunday (19\nJuly).<\/p>\n
Hartono said the group named \u2018Teh Gembul\u2019 has now been abandoned by\nits members and is inactive.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, police investigators have not stopped tracing the group\nin order to thoroughly investigate the involvement of all perpetrators\nwithin it.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are still looking into the WhatsApp group. At the moment we are\nfocused on hunting down the perpetrators who are still at large,\u201d\nHartono said.<\/p>\n
The mass rape case that has shocked the Madurese public involved a\n15-year-old girl. The victim was reportedly raped in turns by 27 males,\nmost of them teenagers and children.<\/p>\n
The vile acts came to light after the victim\u2019s family reported the\nmatter to Sampang Police. According to the investigation, the assaults\noccurred six times between February and June 2026 across the districts\nof Sampang, Camplong and Omben.<\/p>\n
To date, police have detained 13 perpetrators, nine of whom have been\ntransferred to the prosecutors\u2019 office.
