What's wrong with my visa?<\/p>\n
I have a complaint about an investigation made by the
\nintelligence service of the police. They visited PT Factory,
\nchecking my colleague's and my business visas. My colleague's was
\nOK, but mine had a problem, perhaps because I have a white skin.<\/p>\n
My colleague lives on the company premises and I at a hotel.
\nAs per a request from the police last year PT Factory had to
\nregister further guests, as twice we sent workers to Indonesia
\nwithout a visa in 2003 to check goods we had purchased from them,
\nand they were asked to leave the country. PT Factory paid some
\nmoney to secure their release.<\/p>\n
I left the hotel on the morning of Feb. 10 to go to PT
\nFactory. The driver informed me that the police were at the
\nfactory checking my colleague at 9:30 a.m. I arrived at 10 a.m.
\nand met with my colleague, who said all was fine.<\/p>\n
The company representative asked for my passport for the
\npolice to check. I hadn't brought my passport with me, so the
\ndriver of PT Factory and two officers went to the hotel and asked
\na representative from PT Factory to hold my passport. They left,
\nsaying that there was something wrong with my visa. I went to the
\nhotel and immediately called the issuing consulate to clarify.
\nThey said as long as the visa was a type 431 or type 439 it
\nshould be OK. The police requested that I also register at the
\npolice station. Aren't immigration records enough, including to
\nchange my visa to type 439? So the consulate informed me that I
\ndidn't need to register with the police. Who is right? What's the
\nrule here, if any?<\/p>\n
The police should be honest! We are just trying to make a
\nliving!<\/p>\n
