What use are Kadin and Gapensi?<\/p>\n

There is a regulation which stipulates that every contractor
\nmust belong to the Association of Indonesian National Contractors
\n(Gapensi), and that every firm which sells services or produces
\ngoods must be a member of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and
\nIndustry (Kadin). In each case, the company is obliged to pay a
\nsubstantial membership fee and a fairly large annual contribution.
\nThis is a burden for financially weak companies, as is the case
\nwith mine.<\/p>\n
What really is the role of Gapensi and Kadin and what benefit
\ndoes a company get from being a member? Neither organization gets
\nbusiness for their members, leaving the companies to lobby the
\ngovernment and private groups.<\/p>\n
Even if a member needs a letter of recommendation, it has to
\npay a fee. The funds of Gapensi and Kadin continue to grow, while
\ntheir members see very few benefits.<\/p>\n
