Domestic bus passengers always face a dilemma prior to
\nLebaran. The problem is usually insufficient transportation to
\ncarry commuters to their respective hometowns. Another problem is
\nirrationally increased bus fares. Fares could rise by more than
\n50 percent while only a 30 percent price hike has been permitted.<\/p>\n
Nowadays overland transport is more appealing and more
\ncomfortable, but fees have also adapted accordingly. Witness
\nthose six-wheeled buses equipped with facilities similar to
\nmodern aircraft such as reclining seats, toilet, blankets,
\ncushions, and air-conditioning.<\/p>\n
But, will all of this have any impact on travel when traffic
\njams along the northern coast still haunt bus drivers and a brief
\nstretch of road turns into a half day trip?<\/p>\n
Another question of mine is, will regular bus lines which have
\nbeen doubling their prices, increase their fares further?<\/p>\n
I am concerned about this because it did happen last year.
\nBuses have started charging unreasonable fares on regular days.
\nIt would not be surprising if certain transportation companies
\nalso join in these price hikes before Lebaran.<\/p>\n
We hope that officials of the Traffic and Transportation
\nDepartment will do their job effectively and side with the
\nconsumers, instead of lending their support to such bus
\ncompanies.<\/p>\n
