        "content": "<p>West Sumatra exports chefs to Malaysia<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): West Sumatra has found a potentially lucrative<br>\nexport commodity which, until now, has remained largely untapped:<br>\nchefs of the spicy Padang cuisine.<\/p>\n<p>Seven chefs left for Malaysia this week to work at the Holiday<br>\nInn Hotel in Johor Baru, after a recent exhibition of Padang<br>\ncuisine proved to be successful, according to Antara.<\/p>\n<p>The Padang food was well-liked not only by the locals but also<br>\nappeared popular among Europeans, Americans, Chinese, Japanese<br>\nand other Asian tourists visiting the Malaysian city, Gazali<br>\nHamzah, the head of the marketing of the West Sumatra Tourist<br>\nOffice, told the news agency. &quot;They (the hotel management) are<br>\nbringing in the chefs from Padang specifically to cater to the<br>\ntourists.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He said among the most popular Padang dishes were rendang,<br>\ndendeng balado and gulai (meat simmered in spices and coconut<br>\nmilk, spicy crisp beef strips and curry).<\/p>\n<p>Gazali said the tourist office has also received queries from<br>\nSingapore restaurants asking about employing chefs of Padang<br>\ncuisine.<\/p>\n<p>He said the increasing popularity of Padang cuisine is also an<br>\nopportunity for West Sumatra to boost its tourist industry<br>\nabroad.
