West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan has announced the use of a situational "partial one-way" traffic management strategy to effectively clear congestion at the Nagreg bottleneck during the mudik (return home) period. The strategy has proven successful in dispersing traffic within minutes, with vehicle volumes increasing by 100 per cent on the sixth day before Eid, and police expect a second peak in traffic flow on 19-20 March.

Nagreg – A partial one-way traffic strategy is being deployed as the
main measure by officers in the field to manage congestion during the
mudik exodus at Nagreg.

West Java Police Chief Inspector General Polisi Rudi Setiawan stated
that the scheme, which differs from the permanent one-way system, is
being applied situationally based on the length of vehicle queues at
congestion-prone points such as Limbangan and Nagreg.

According to him, the scheme has proven effective in clearing traffic
congestion within minutes. Coordination with the West Java Police
Traffic Directorate is also being conducted to ensure that the tail of
congestion does not block vehicle movement.

“It is quite effective – within a relatively short time, it can clear
the traffic flow. This has been proven, just 10 minutes ago, it was
said, and traffic at Limbangan was already flowing smoothly again,” he
stated on Monday, 16 March 2026.

He noted that in addition to managing traffic on toll roads,
personnel have also been concentrated to maintain smooth flow on
arterial routes from Nagreg to the Central Java border.

“Today we are also focused on arterial routes. Over the past two days
we have been managing traffic on toll road sections. Today we are
focusing from Karawang towards the East Priangan area,” he said.

Based on field observations, he stated that vehicle flow on the sixth
day before Eid recorded an increase of up to 100 per cent compared to
normal days. Despite the increase in vehicle volume, he assured that the
movement of returnees towards the East Priangan region remained
relatively smooth and controlled.

“Alhamdulillah, there was an increase of 100 per cent, but as we can
see together, traffic is quite smooth,” he said.

The police force predicts that the mudik wave in their area will be
divided into two phases. After stable increases today, the second peak
of mudik traffic is expected to occur on 19-20 March.

“It seems this first increase is relatively still stable. Perhaps the
second peak of mudik traffic is expected on the 19th-20th when there
will be an increase in traffic flow. But we, all ranks, are ready,” Rudi
said.

Meanwhile, data from the Bandung District Transportation Office shows
that vehicle volume on the Nagreg route is quite high. Head of Transport
Development at the Bandung District Transportation Office Eric Alam
Prabowo stated that by Sunday evening, approximately 43,000 vehicles had
passed through.
",
