        "content": "<p>Activists from Lingkar 98 West Java and the 98 Resolution Network\nheld a consolidation meeting in Bandung, urging fellow reformists to\nreflect on 28 years of contributions to Indonesia\u2019s political democracy.\nThe groups argue that the 1998 movement remains incomplete, as political\ndemocratisation has not progressed simultaneously with economic\ndemocratisation, resulting in what they describe as a pseudo-democracy.\n\u201cWhen natural resources are controlled by a handful of groups through\nwhat is called \u2018greedynomics\u2019 during the reform era, it hijacks\npolitical democracy and the livelihood of the people,\u201d said 98\nResolution Network spokesperson Agus Teddy Sumantri in a written\nstatement on Monday. He stressed that the democratic system must be\nbased on socio-democracy, not Western-style liberal democracy which only\nguarantees freedom at the ballot box. \u201cThis Western-style democracy\nignores the people\u2019s access to the nation\u2019s wealth. Constitutionally,\nArticle 33 of the 1945 Constitution mandates that the state\u2019s natural\nresources be managed by the state to improve the people\u2019s welfare,\u201d\nTeddy stated. The group outlined eight points of view and stance.\nFirstly, they fully support President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s steps to\nexecute the reform mandate by seizing corruptors\u2019 assets to subsidise\nthe people, evidenced by recent confiscations of money from various\ncorruption cases. \u201cTo provide a deterrent effect, we urge law enforcers\nto punish corruptors involved in the free nutritious meal programme with\nsevere penalties, at least life imprisonment, for betraying the people,\nthe state, and the trust given by President Prabowo,\u201d Teddy said.\nSecondly, Teddy assessed that the current anti-corruption approach is\nmore progressive as it targets corruption related to state revenue\nsources, natural resource management, and misuse of concession permits.\n\u201cThe government has prevented revenue leakage through mis-invoicing\npractices estimated at Rp 100 trillion per year and transfer pricing\naround Rp 75 trillion per year,\u201d he explained. Thirdly, in line with the\ndemands for agrarian reform and Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution,\nPresident Prabowo established the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force\nthrough Presidential Regulation Number 5 of 2025 to curb illegal forest\noccupation and collect administrative fines. \u201cThe task force has seized\n5,901,512.89 hectares of land, consisting of 5.88 million hectares of\noil palm plantations and 12,371.58 hectares of mining areas, which will\nbe redistributed for the people to manage through cooperatives. We ask\nthe government to promote transparency in its management,\u201d Teddy said.\nFourthly, the groups urged all stakeholders to embody President\nPrabowo\u2019s spirit in upholding Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution,\ncalling on state managers to uphold efficiency and anti-corruption\nprinciples. \u201cWe will continue to monitor so that no one misuses the\nPresident\u2019s good intentions by easily shifting leakages from one place\nto another,\u201d Teddy stated. Fifthly, Teddy noted that President Prabowo\nhas deconstructed the state budget structure as a tool to protect the\npeople and ensure citizens live prosperously. He said the President\noverhauled corruptive spending and idle regional transfer funds,\nreallocating them to the Free Nutritious Meal programme. The groups\ncondemned neoliberal-minded critics who label this populist programme as\n\u2018budget burning\u2019 and market distortion. \u201cWith the uncovering of\ncorruption cases in the National Nutrition Agency, we ask the government\nto immediately evaluate its governance,\u201d Teddy said. Sixthly, the groups\ndismissed intrigues accusing the government of cutting education budgets\nfor the meal programme. Seventhly, they respect all forms of criticism\nagainst the government. Teddy noted that President Prabowo has proven\nhimself open to corrections regarding alleged irregularities in the meal\nprogramme\u2019s management. However, he observed an anomaly in current\nsocial movements, which adopt a neoliberal mindset. \u201cSome parties\nquestion welfare budgets and accuse the strengthening of state-owned\nenterprises as an engine for people\u2019s economic empowerment of being a\nmarket distortion,\u201d Teddy said. Lastly, in facing geopolitical pressures\nthat weaken the national economy, they called on all elements of the\nnation to strengthen unity and brotherhood in a peaceful atmosphere. He\nstated that the political democracy achieved must become a tool to\naccelerate equitable welfare. \u201cWe will continue to actively open\ndialogue to explain the direction of President Prabowo\u2019s strategic\nprogrammes while overseeing their implementation,\u201d Teddy concluded. The\ngroups also support the government in continuing pro-people programmes\nsuch as Kampung Nelayan, Free Nutritious Meals, Food Self-Sufficiency,\nand the Koperasi Merah Putih. \u201cHowever, we also remind policymakers to\ncreate programme governance that is accountable, transparent, and can be\njustified,\u201d Teddy concluded.<\/p>",
