West Java governor summoned for corruption<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The West Java legislature quizzed Governor R.
\nNuriana on Saturday over alleged corruption and collusion
\ninvolving billions of rupiah during his term in office.<\/p>\n
Provincial legislature speaker Idin Rapioedin said Nuriana was
\nsummoned to clarify cases of graft which reportedly involved him.<\/p>\n
\"At least nine cases involving Nuriana were addressed during
\nthe hearing,\" said the legislator from the Indonesian Democratic
\nParty of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan).<\/p>\n
He said the cases included the development of a housing
\ncomplex for the provincial councilors, the purchase of stationery
\nfor local administration offices, the establishment of
\nfoundations which carried out construction projects on provincial
\nbuildings and exchange and the sale of provincial assets to
\nprivate firms.<\/p>\n
Nuriana, a former local military commander and Golkar
\nofficial, took office in 1993. Opposition party PDI Perjuangan
\nwon the most seats in the legislature following the June
\nelections.<\/p>\n
Idin said the province's assets were allegedly sold or
\nexchanged to private companies at below market prices.<\/p>\n
Nuriana denied the accusations, saying that all transactions
\nwere conducted according to the existing procedures and under
\nproper supervision.<\/p>\n
He said the development of the local government's facilities
\nwas approved by the Golkar dominated-legislature at the time.<\/p>\n
Several councilors appeared unconvinced by Nuriana's
\nresponses. The hearing was adjourned until Tuesday when
\ncouncilors will again question the governor. (43\/jun)<\/p>",
