The policy of West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, who launched a prize\ncompetition for residents who successfully catch muggers, has drawn\ncriticism from two ministers in the Red and White Cabinet, namely\nMinister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai and Coordinating Minister for\nLaw, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza\nMahendra.<\/p>\n
Responding to the criticism, Dedi Mulyadi stressed that in addition\nto the rights of perpetrators, the rights of crime victims must also be\na serious concern for the government. According to him, victims of\ncriminal acts often experience various forms of rights violations,\nranging from the loss of a sense of security and state protection, to\nloss of property and even loss of life.<\/p>\n
\"People who become victims of crime also experience human rights\nviolations. They lose security, state protection, property, and many\neven lose their lives,\" said Dedi.<\/p>\n
Dedi highlighted the issue of financing medical treatment for crime\nvictims, which is often neglected. He revealed that many victims\nexperience financial difficulties when they have to undergo medical care\nin hospital due to their injuries.<\/p>\n
As a concrete solution, the West Java Provincial Government has\nadopted a policy to guarantee all medical expenses for crime victims\nwithout exception.<\/p>\n
\"In West Java Province, all crime victims have their hospital costs\nguaranteed by the provincial government, regardless of the amount,\" he\nasserted. This policy, Dedi continued, was born from his experience\nassisting many victims who struggled with medical costs.<\/p>\n
Despite focusing on victims, Dedi stated that perpetrators of crime\nwho are injured\u2014whether during the arrest process or as a result of mob\nviolence\u2014still have the right to receive medical treatment. He\nacknowledged that in some cases, law enforcement officers face budget\nconstraints in financing the treatment of perpetrators in hospital.<\/p>\n
Dedi even admitted to having personally helped finance the treatment\nof a criminal perpetrator because of the large costs involved. He\nstressed that protecting both victims and perpetrators does not conflict\nwith the principles of law enforcement.<\/p>\n
\"The West Java Provincial Government will be present to resolve and\nprotect both,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Regarding the input from Natalius Pigai and Yusril Ihza Mahendra,\nDedi stated that he greatly appreciated the criticism. He assured that\nthe West Java Provincial Government remains committed to protecting\nhuman rights in every step of law enforcement to prevent vigilante\nactions.<\/p>\n
