The West Java provincial government emphasises that Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 (PP Tunas) requires strict parental supervision to ensure its effective implementation in protecting children online. Secretary General Herman Suryatman highlighted the need for parents to act as role models in digital ethics, limit screen time, and select safe platforms, while platforms like Meta, X, and Bigo Live have fully complied, TikTok and Roblox partially so, and YouTube has not demonstrated good faith. This dual approach of regulation and societal digital literacy aims to foster a safe digital ecosystem for children, underscoring the critical role of families in mitigating online risks.",

West Java Secretary General Herman Suryatman stated in a
written interview with ANTARA in Bandung on Friday that the spirit of PP
Tunas is not merely to restrict technology, but to ensure children grow
up in a safe digital ecosystem. He emphasised the importance of parents
becoming role models or exemplars in ethical behaviour on social media.
Furthermore, Secretary General Herman assessed that child protection in
the virtual world must proceed on “two legs”. In addition to platforms
that must comply with the law such as PP Tunas, society must also
enhance its digital literacy to be able to filter which platforms are
safe for their children. “Parents still hold control, they need to limit
screen time, choose safe platforms, and become role models for their
children,” he said. Based on information from the Ministry of
Communication and Digital (Komdigi), digital platform owners that as of
Thursday (9/4) at 17.50 WIB have fully complied with PP Tunas include
Meta (Threads, Instagram, Facebook), X, and Bigo Live. Platforms TikTok
and Roblox are considered to have partially complied with the provisions
in PP Tunas. Google, as the owner of the YouTube platform, is assessed
as not having shown good faith in complying with the regulation.
",
