REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – Commission I of the West Java DPRD
supports strengthening broadcasting institutions as credible information
sources amidst the overwhelming flow of information on social media.

This support was conveyed by a member of Commission I of the West
Java DPRD, Rafael Situmorang, during a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) held
by the West Java branch of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI)
at Pasundan University on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

According to Rafael, broadcasting issues are a strategic matter that
needs to be supported through policy and budget allocation. This will
enable broadcasting institutions to optimally carry out their
educational, informational, and social control functions amidst the
development of digital media.

“Broadcasting issues are important for us to support, both through
regulations and budgets, so that broadcasting institutions can become
institutions that are listened to by the public,” said Rafael.

He also mentioned the need for regulation of social media content,
which he believes is currently unregulated. However, he said that this
authority lies at the national level through legislation.

Rafael hopes that the research compiled by the West Java KPI through
the forum can provide strategic input in the preparation of policies to
strengthen the broadcasting ecosystem while maintaining information
resilience amidst the dominance of digital media.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the West Java branch of the Indonesian
Broadcasting Commission, Adiyana Slamet, explained that the forum was a
continuation of previous discussions that discussed the behaviour of
Generation Z from a broadcasting psychology perspective.

In this forum, the discussion was expanded through the perspective of
national resilience with a Pancagatra approach.

“If previously we looked at it from the psychological, cognitive, and
affective sides, this time the perspective is broader, including
ideology, politics, economy, socio-culture, as well as defence and
security. This is important because it is related to national
resilience,” said Adiyana.

He added that the strength of broadcasting media in West Java needs
to be continuously strengthened so that it can become a balancing force
amidst the dominance of social media, especially in providing accurate
information for Generation Z.
",
