        "content": "<p>Residents\u2019 wells in Bangorejo Sub-district, Banyuwangi Regency, have\nseen their output decline until running dry. The situation has left\nlocals struggling to obtain clean water.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of East\nJava, drought and water shortages have affected several sub-districts in\nBanyuwangi for the past three months, including Bangorejo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are coordinating with the PMI of Banyuwangi Regency to move\nquickly in distributing clean water assistance to affected communities,\u201d\nsaid the Chairman of PMI East Java, Imam Utomo, in Surabaya on Friday\n(24\/7).<\/p>\n<p>The distribution of clean water began on 22 July 2026 in Kedungrejo\nHamlet, Sambirejo Village, Bangorejo Sub-district. The following day,\nThursday (23\/7\/2026), assistance was again channelled to Kedungrejo\nHamlet, Sambimulyo Village, following a request from the village head\nrelayed through the Chairman of PMI Bangorejo Sub-district.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of Sambimulyo Village, Andik Santoso, reported to PMI East\nJava that his area had seen no rainfall for around three months. As a\nresult, the output of residents\u2019 wells has continued to decline, and\nsome have dried up completely, making it difficult for the community to\nobtain clean water for their daily needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, there are currently students from Airlangga University\ncarrying out their community service programme (KKN) in our village. The\nclean water assistance from PMI Banyuwangi Regency has been a great help\nto the community in meeting their daily needs. The water is being stored\nin tanks prepared by the Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Banyuwangi\nRegency,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of the PMI Banyuwangi Regency Base, Sutiyono, explained that\nhis team had coordinated with BPBD and the Banyuwangi Regional Drinking\nWater Enterprise (PUDAM) to anticipate requests for assistance from\nareas beginning to experience drought, including Bangorejo and Cluring\nSub-districts.<\/p>\n<p>PMI Banyuwangi Regency has formed a Clean Water Distribution Team\ncomprising volunteers and base staff. The team is supported by one\ntanker truck with a capacity of 5,000 litres, ready to distribute clean\nwater to affected areas.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sutiyono, the distribution of assistance is an emergency\nmeasure to ensure that communities\u2019 basic needs continue to be met\nduring the dry season. \u201cIf a village does not yet have water storage\ntanks, PMI is ready to deliver clean water directly to the homes of\nresidents in need,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
