Weightlifting selection delayed till March 21<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Weightlifting, Powerlifting and
\nBodybuilding Association has decided to delay a national
\nselection due to the General Session of the People's Consultative
\nAssembly (MPR) from March 1 to March 11.<\/p>\n
The association's deputy, Budi Santoso, said on Monday the
\ndelay was also to give more time to the lifters to prepare
\nthemselves better.<\/p>\n
The selection, which was originally staged for Feb. 27, will
\ntake place on March 21 at the Gajah Lampung Center in Pringsewu,
\nLampung.<\/p>\n
Twelve lifters who have been groomed for the 13th Asian Games
\nin Bangkok in December will also compete at the selection.<\/p>\n
The 12 lifters are Joko Hanggono, Erwin Abdullah, Misdan
\nYunif, Taufik, Harry Setiawan, Zulkarnaen and Sutrisno in the
\nmen's side and Sri Indriyani, Winarni, Supeni, Patmawati and
\nSriyani in the women's side.<\/p>\n
They have been training in Pringsewu and Gadog, Bogor, since
\nNovember.<\/p>\n
Budi said the athletes' progress in the past three months
\ncould be observed during the selection.<\/p>\n
Antara has reported Patmawati, who won two golds last December
\nat the World Weightlifting Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand,
\nis suffering from an injury to her right shoulder.<\/p>\n
Patmawati will undergo medical treatment at Pondok Indah
\nHospital, South Jakarta. She was earlier treated at Dr.
\nMintohardjo Navy Hospital, Central Jakarta, and had been examined
\nby Dr. Carmen Jahya from the National Sports Council's medical
\nteam.<\/p>\n
Carmen said Patmawati's injury was chronic and must be treated
\nseriously, otherwise the injury would worsen and could jeopardize
\nher training.<\/p>\n
"The injury really disturbs me very much during practice,"
\nsaid Patmawati, adding that she could not lift during a series of
