        "content": "<p>Weak diplomacy<\/p>\n<p>From Forum Keadilan<\/p>\n<p>Everyone knows about the cancellation of the purchase of U.S.<br>\nF-16 fighter planes as a result of human rights issues in East<br>\nTimor. In my opinion, the case is proof of the fragility of<br>\nIndonesian diplomacy concerning human rights in East Timor. It<br>\nwould actually have been better to let some U.S. Senate members<br>\nspeak vehemently about human rights issues and Indonesia should<br>\nbe up to responding by diplomacy. After all, those voices are not<br>\na decision by Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian government has made too hasty a decision. It<br>\nwould have been better if it had issued a warning of cancellation<br>\nof the order, if the U.S. persisted in exercising pressure on<br>\nhuman rights. At least, it is important to see their reaction to<br>\nsuch a statement.<\/p>\n<p>This case shows that Indonesian diplomacy abroad on human<br>\nrights in East Timor is still not capable of influencing the<br>\noutside world, especially the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>ABU NAZAR<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta<\/p>",
