As an Indonesian citizen I am proud of learning that
\nAbdurrahman Wahid has been installed as chairman of the World
\nConference on Religion and Peace (WCRP) at its recent congress in
\nRiva del Garda, northern Italy.<\/p>\n
I agree with legislator Sukowaluyo who said that the
\nappointment has enhanced the image of Indonesia in the world
\ncommunity.<\/p>\n
It is my hope that Abdurrahman Wahid will help solve the
\nproblems of disputing nations in the world and hence contribute
\nto the realization of global peace.<\/p>\n
In his speech at the Dian Interfide Institute in Yogyakarta on
\nAug. 8 Abdurrahman Wahid said: "The deepest impulse of man which
\nunites all human beings is still buried under a thick layer of
\nprejudice, anxiety and indifference to other religious believers.
\nHence, the solution to mankind's problems through a religious
\napproach will not be successful."<\/p>\n
He also said that a common stance is yet to emerge in
\naddressing mankind's fundamental issues globally, a problem which
\nshould have been faced by all believers: harassment on mankind's
\ndignity, injustice, stifling of creativity, the disappearance of
\nthe freedom of expression and the lack of access the common
\npeople have in taking part in determining the future of the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
I pray that God will bless him in his work in the
\norganization.<\/p>\n
