        "content": "<p>WB names Baird RI director<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (Dow Jones): The World Bank Friday named Mark Baird<br>\nas its new country director for Indonesia as part of a wider<br>\nrestructuring of senior management.<\/p>\n<p>Baird replaces Dennis de Tray who is transferring to World<br>\nBank headquarters in Washington this month.<\/p>\n<p>A New Zealand national, Baird has been vice president of<br>\nstrategic resource management at the bank since February 1997 and<br>\nhas served previously on assignments in Indonesia and India.<\/p>\n<p>World Bank President James Wolfensohn announced a host of<br>\nother new appointments in a statement, including that of Peter<br>\nWoicke as a managing director of the bank.<\/p>\n<p>Woicke will take responsibility for &quot;ensuring the coherence of<br>\nour private sector work across the bank group&quot; and will retain<br>\nhis current position as vice president of the International<br>\nFinance Corp.<\/p>\n<p>Reporting to Woicke will be Nemat Shafik, who has been<br>\nappointed vice president of infrastructure and private sector<br>\ndevelopment while Manuel Conthe is to take on a new position as<br>\nvice president for financial operations, moving from his position<br>\nas chief economic counselor to the European Union in Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>Just as the Brazilian crisis takes another twist the World<br>\nBank&apos;s vice president for its Latin American and Caribbean<br>\noffice, Shahid Javed Burki, is to retire after 25 years with the<br>\nbank and will be replaced by David de Ferranti, head of the World<br>\nBank&apos;s human development network.<\/p>",
