WB names Baird RI director<\/p>\n
WASHINGTON (Dow Jones): The World Bank Friday named Mark Baird
\nas its new country director for Indonesia as part of a wider
\nrestructuring of senior management.<\/p>\n
Baird replaces Dennis de Tray who is transferring to World
\nBank headquarters in Washington this month.<\/p>\n
A New Zealand national, Baird has been vice president of
\nstrategic resource management at the bank since February 1997 and
\nhas served previously on assignments in Indonesia and India.<\/p>\n
World Bank President James Wolfensohn announced a host of
\nother new appointments in a statement, including that of Peter
\nWoicke as a managing director of the bank.<\/p>\n
Woicke will take responsibility for "ensuring the coherence of
\nour private sector work across the bank group" and will retain
\nhis current position as vice president of the International
\nFinance Corp.<\/p>\n
Reporting to Woicke will be Nemat Shafik, who has been
\nappointed vice president of infrastructure and private sector
\ndevelopment while Manuel Conthe is to take on a new position as
\nvice president for financial operations, moving from his position
\nas chief economic counselor to the European Union in Brussels.<\/p>\n
Just as the Brazilian crisis takes another twist the World
\nBank's vice president for its Latin American and Caribbean
\noffice, Shahid Javed Burki, is to retire after 25 years with the
\nbank and will be replaced by David de Ferranti, head of the World
\nBank's human development network.<\/p>",
