        "content": "<p>WB lends Malaysia $300m<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (Reuters): The World Bank approved a $300 million<br>\nloan on Thursday for Malaysia and said the money would help ease<br>\nthe social costs of Asia's economic flu.<\/p>\n<p>The bank said the loan, to be paid in a single instalment,<br>\nwould give Malaysia the budget flexibility it needs to maintain<br>\nexisting spending on health and education and step up the scope<br>\nof programs to reduce poverty in rural areas.<\/p>\n<p>\"Over the past decades Malaysia has made spectacular gains in<br>\neconomic growth and reduction of poverty,\" country director Ngozi<br>\nOkonjo-Iweala said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\"We want to help Malaysia protect those gains by improving<br>\neconomic conditions, stimulating growth and extending assistance<br>\nto those most vulnerable to the effects of the region's economic<br>\ncrisis.\"<\/p>\n<p>The bank said the loan, the first World Bank credit to<br>\nMalaysia for four years, was part of a broad regional strategy to<br>\nease the social costs of Asia's economic crisis.<\/p>",
