Water supply from Jatiluhur<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The most economical way of meeting Jakarta's
\nrising demand for water over the next 10 years is to increase the
\namount of water taken from the Jatiluhur dam in West Java, an
\nofficial said yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"The increase in water input (from the dam) can be achieved by
\nraising the capacity of the Tarum Barat pipe network or by
\nbuilding a new pipeline directly from Jatiluhur,\" said Risyana
\nSukarna, head of the clean water section of the directorate of
\ntechnical development.<\/p>\n
Risyana told Antara that the water city's water supply still
\nrelies heavily on the Tarum Barat network.<\/p>\n
He said that the supply of water from Jatiluhur will be
\nadequate until the year 2000.<\/p>\n
The water demand in the city is projected to increase steadily
\nover the next few years, in line with the rising population and
\nthe rapid growth of industry, meaning that new sources are
