Water catchment area needs protection<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja reiterated the
\nimportance of maintaining South Jakarta as the city's main water
\ncatchment area, to help secure an adequate supply of water.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the opening of the Ciliwung River rowboat
\ncompetition on Sunday, Surjadi urged officials of the South
\nJakarta Mayoralty to strictly prevent any possible violations in
\nthe use of lands, mainly for the construction of residential
\nbuildings, in the area.<\/p>\n
The governor said that city administration issued Regulation
\nNo. 3\/1987 regarding requirements for the construction of houses
\nin the mayoralty's three districts -- Jagakarsa, Cilandak and
\nPasar Minggu, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
Based on the regulation, which is aimed mainly at curbing
\nreckless expansion of construction projects, people intending to
\nbuild houses in the districts are required to apply for building
\npermits from the South Jakarta city planning office.<\/p>\n
People are told to understand and obey the standard
\nconstruction coefficient, in which the building must not cover
\nmore than 20 percent of the land.<\/p>\n
The governor praised South Jakarta Mayor H. Pardjoko for his
\ndecision to launch an integrated service for the processing of
\nland certificates and building permits for local residents.<\/p>\n
At the ceremony Pardjoko said that the one-day rowboat
\ncompetition was one of his mayoralty's efforts to promote clean
\nliving and a well-organized environment among local residents.<\/p>\n
Seventeen boats, consisting of 4 crews each, joined the
\ncompetition, which covered 10 kilometers from the Srengseng Sawah
\nsub-district to Jagakarsa through Condet Bridge on Jl.
