BEKASI \u2013 Allegations of illegal extortion (pungli) targeting waste\ntruck drivers in Gang Lurah, Sumur Batu District, Bantargebang\nSubdistrict, Bekasi City, have resurfaced following a viral video of a\ndriver\u2019s confession on social media.<\/p>\n
Bantargebang Police Chief Commissioner Sukadi stated that police had\npreviously followed up on similar reports by conducting a direct\ninspection of the location. He noted that such practices were not new to\nthe area.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had already instructed my officers to check the location\nyesterday. They said there was no extortion. But now it\u2019s appearing\nagain\u2014I don\u2019t understand what\u2019s happening,\u201d Sukadi said when contacted\non Thursday, 26 February 2026.<\/p>\n
However, the route serves as an alternative because the main access\nroad to the Sumur Batu Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA) has suffered a\nlandslide and is impassable.<\/p>\n
As a result, waste trucks have been diverted through Gang Lurah.\nNevertheless, Sukadi emphasised that extortion practices by anyone\ncannot be justified.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhatever it\u2019s called, extortion by local residents is prohibited and\nnot allowed,\u201d he stated firmly.<\/p>\n
Regarding the video posted by the Instagram account @radar_bekasi<\/span>, which\nshows a truck driver claiming his vehicle was attacked when he failed to\nprovide money whilst passing through, Sukadi urged the driver to file an\nofficial report immediately.<\/p>\n \u201cLet him file a report with me. I will process it, and if necessary,\nI will arrest the perpetrators,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Sumur Batu District Secretary Budi Sulistyo explained that\nthe alleged attacks on drivers were not due to refusal to pay money, but\nrather stemmed from violations of an agreement made between residents\nand relevant parties.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s because they violated the rules. According to the information I\nreceived, there was no coercion regarding the money request. But\nregardless of the form, extortion is still not justified,\u201d Budi\nsaid.<\/p>\n Budi explained that the use of the environmental road was an\nemergency solution agreed upon to address congestion caused by long\nqueues of waste trucks heading to the TPA.<\/p>\n \u201cThe original agreement was to address congestion. However, the\nreality is that the trucks are still using this road,\u201d Budi said.<\/p>\n He noted that residents felt affected because the road, originally\ndesignated for environmental activities, is now being used by large\nwaste-carrying vehicles.<\/p>",
