        "content": "<p>Warning for timber firms<\/p>\n<p>JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: The local government has threatened to<br>\ntake punitive action against forest concessionaire holders who<br>\nrefuse to employ indigenous people.<\/p>\n<p>Chief of the provincial forestry office Soehardidjono said it<br>\nis mandatory for timber companies operating in the area to employ<br>\nlocal people and transfer technical know-how to them.<\/p>\n<p>\"Companies who fail to do that face harsh action,\" he<br>\nwas quoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n<p>He said the local government has issued a set of rules<br>\nrequiring forestry companies to help develop human resources.<\/p>\n<p>He added that companies are allowed to bring in employees with<br>\nspecific skills that local people do not have.
