Warehouse bandit shot dead<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Penjaringan police in North Jakarta shot dead on
\nSaturday a man who had been caught red-handed by Muara Karang
\nresidents breaking into several stores at a warehousing complex,
\nan officer said.<\/p>\n
The Penjaringan police officer, who asked for anonymity, said
\nthat police shot 35-year-old Romsie Kurniawan in the back as he
\nresisted arrest.<\/p>\n
According to him, the resident of Ciledug, Tangerang, had been
\nseverely beaten by the local residents before being taken to the
\npolice.<\/p>\n
\"The suspect suffered serious injuries to his body and face,\"
\nthe officer said.<\/p>\n
On the way to the Penjaringan police station escorted by some
\nresidents, Romsie managed to escape.<\/p>\n
The police were alerted and quickly began a search. He was
\nspotted but refused to surrender with one of the officers firing
\nhis gun at the suspect's back.<\/p>\n
The police are still in the dark about his accomplices, who,
\nalong with Romsie, had reportedly stolen goods from the
\nwarehouses at about 11 a.m. on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\"While his accomplices managed to escape, Romsie was arrested
\nby the complex's security guards and local residents,\" the
\nofficer said.<\/p>\n
The body of Romsie was taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General
