Wardah questioned over illegal rally<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Coordinator of the Urban Poor Consortium (UPC)
\nWardah Hafidz, and an activist from the Philippines, Ted Anyana,
\nwere brought to the City Police Headquarters on Thursday evening
\nfor questioning in connection with the continuing rally by dozens
\nof illegal squatters at the City Council compound.<\/p>\n
An UPC staff member, told The Jakarta Post that his boss and
\ntheir fellow activist were taken from the compound by some police
\nofficers at around 6 p.m. without any clear reason.<\/p>\n
\"We still have no idea the reason for their arrest. The arrest
\nwas made when our fellow activist from the Philippines, Ted
\nAnyana, was addressing the crowd,\" Budi said.<\/p>\n
As reported earlier, the squatters, who were forcibly removed
\non Monday from their shanties at the Karang Anyar subdistrict,
\nCentral Jakarta, have staged a long protest at the City Council
\nsince the same day.<\/p>\n
There seems to be no clear solution to the problem as the
\nauthorities insisted that shanty dwellers had been illegal
