        "content": "<p>Wanted: Less powerful regents<\/p>\n<p>PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: Many governors want the autonomy<br>\nlaw, which has been in force only for less than a year, revised<br>\nbecause it allows legal uncertainties, a senior official has<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>H.M. Hatta Mustafa, a member of the People's Consultative<br>\nAssembly, said the law allows authorities of the central,<br>\nprovincial and regency administrations to overlap.<\/p>\n<p>The law, which aims at decentralizing government power, gives<br>\nmore authority to the regencies. The government is working on<br>\namending it on the grounds that the law gives to regencies too<br>\nmuch power that can be easily abused.<\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of generating as much revenue as possible, as<br>\nthe law requires, regencies tend to overexploit their resources<br>\nwithout heeding the provincial and central government, Hatta said<br>\nwhen addressing a meeting with village chiefs in Muara Enim<br>\nregency.<\/p>\n<p>The government is expected to deliver the bill in the near<br>\nfuture. -- Antara<\/p>",
