Wall-Mart Pluit opens<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): U.S. retail chain Wal-Mart opened a four-story
\nsupercenter in North Jakarta's Megamal Pluit yesterday.<\/p>\n
The store is managed by PT Multipolar Corporation, a Lippo
\nGroup subsidiary, which has a franchise agreement with Wal-Mart.<\/p>\n
PT Multipolar Corporation president director Winardi
\nSetiaputra said he was proud of the success of the first Wal-Mart
\nsupercenter, which opened last August in the Lippo Supermal,
\nKarawaci.<\/p>\n
He said products sold at the 17,108-square-meter Wal-Mart
\nsupercenter were cheaper than at other stores.<\/p>\n
The opening ceremony was attended by Lippo Group deputy
\nchairman James T. Riady, Wal-Mart International Division chief
\noperating officer John Lupo and Wal-Mart Asia president and chief
\noperating officer Joe Hatfield.<\/p>\n
The store sells many items including groceries, family
\napparel, health and beauty products, electronics, jewelry and
\ntoys among other products. Eighty-five percent of products are
\nmade locally.<\/p>\n
The supercenter brings Megamal Pluit's real occupation rate to
\n97 percent, up from 90 percent. (ste)<\/p>",
