(WMT) has finally decided to<br>\ninvest in the country, the U.S. retailer&apos;s first investment in<br>\nAsia.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They&apos;re still negotiating with a potential local partner, but<br>\nthey are prepared to come in on their own,&quot; said Roxas, who<br>\naccompanied Wal-Mart officials in their meeting with President<br>\nGloria Macapagal-Arroyo Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Roxas said the government is hopeful of convincing Wal-Mart to<br>\ninvest in other sectors of the economy besides retailing,<br>\nincluding establishing a regional headquarters in Manila.<\/p>\n<p>Wal-Mart already buys some $60 million worth of Philippine<br>\nproducts.<\/p>\n<p>Wal-Mart will be the second major foreign retailer to invest<br>\nin the country since the sector was openned to foreign investors<br>\nlast year.<\/p>\n<p>U.S.-based membership-shopping warehouse operator PriceSmart<br>\nInc.is scheduled to open an outlet this year in the Philippines.<br>\nThis will be its third outlet in Asia.<\/p>",
