Wahyu Abadi develops new design of securities papers<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Wahyu Abadi, a securities printing company,
\nsaid that it has developed a more complicated design for banking
\ncommercial papers with a total investment of more than Rp 2.1
\nbillion (US$898,587).<\/p>\n
A director of the company, Seno, told journalist yesterday
\nthat the new design has unique security fonts and numerical
\nwording.<\/p>\n
\"These two features, which have never been used in Indonesia,
\nwill better protect commercial documents from forgery,\" Seno
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\"We can't guarantee that there won't be any fakes of our
\nproducts but we believe that our design cannot be re-designed or
\nscanned even with the help of the latest computer technology,\" he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
A company commissioner, Subisono, said that 60 percent of the
\ncompany's products are commercial papers for banking and stock
\nmarket.<\/p>\n
He said that at the end of 1995, the share scrips of 90
\npercent of listed companies and the commercial papers of about 85
\npercent of private banks in Indonesia were produced by the
\ncompany.<\/p>\n
The company admitted it has thus far detected four cases of
\ncertificate forgery, affecting the shares of PT Indah Kiat, PT HM
\nSampoerna, PT Inti Indorayon and PT Inco.<\/p>\n
Subiono, however, would not say how many cases of forgery have
\nbeen discovered in the banking sector so far.<\/p>\n
\"I think such information should be provided by the police and
\nnot by a printing company. But if a bank asked for more
\nsophisticated securities paper it could be a sign that some
\nforgery had happened,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Wahyu Abadi, one of eleven securities printing companies in
\nIndonesia, is one of four companies licensed as the second grade
\nprinting company.<\/p>\n
Second grade printing companies are allowed to produce all
\nbanking securities papers and stock market scrips. Banking
\ncommercial papers include checks, giros, debit notes, credit
\nnotes, and certificates of deposit.<\/p>\n
The first grade is monopolized by state-owned PT Peruri which
\nprints rupiah banknotes and produces mints (coins). (08)<\/p>",
