W. Java defends tae kwon do title<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): West Java defended its overall champion title at
\nthe second LG Cup Taekwondo National Championships at the Bung
\nKarno Indoor Tennis Stadium in Senayan, Central Jakarta, after
\ngrabbing eight of 16 golds at stake on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The team's victory was boosted when the organizers announced
\nMuhammad Dalam Imron as the best men's fighter and Dasantyo as
\nthe best coach.<\/p>\n
Ika Dian Fitria of East Java was named the best women's
\nfighter and Raphael J. Rosok of East Kalimantan as the best
\nreferee.<\/p>\n
The organizer's chairman, Intan Hardi Wijaya, told reporters
\nthat the best athletes and officials were selected by a special
\nteam set by TI.<\/p>\n
\"The criteria were clear. The person must show good taekwondo
\nskills, good taekwondo knowledge, and good attitude and mores,\"
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
West Java scooped three more golds on Sunday leaving the
\nfourth and last medal to Jakarta.<\/p>\n
A. Wildan of West Java fighting in the men's bantamweight
\nevent outclassed Himawan Sutiono of Jakarta 8-4.<\/p>\n
\"My opponent was actually good but he couldn't stand the
\npressure. On the other hand, I produced more points,\" Wildan told
\nreporters after the match.<\/p>\n
Wildan's victory was followed by teammate Bayu P. who defeated
\nMario Bagyo after a close fight at the men's welterweight class
\nfinal.<\/p>\n
Sharing the score 3-3 in the first and second rounds, Bayu
\nadded two more points to Mario's one in the decisive third round
\nto grab the gold with only one point difference 8-7.<\/p>\n
National taekwondoin Shinta Berliana Heru of West Java,
\ncompeting in the women's welterweight final, grabbed the third
\ngold for her team after defeating Amalia K.P. of Jakarta 4-2.<\/p>\n
The fourth gold of the day went to Jakarta when Diah Satriaji
\nbeat Yovieta of Yogyakarta 4-2 in the women's bantam weight class
\nfinal.<\/p>\n
In overall standing, East Java finished second with four golds
\nand Jakarta was third collecting three golds.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Taekwondo Association (TI) chairman, Suharto,
\nsaid that the West Java contingent deserved to be the overall
\nchampion.<\/p>\n
\"The branch has the best development program so far in
\ncomparison to others. West Java chapter organizes tournaments at
\ndistrict level, not only at branch level. No other branches
\narrange competitions at such a low level. This exposes West
\nJava's fighters to competition at a very early stage.\"<\/p>\n
Suharto also said all winners would be admitted to the second
\nphase of the training schedule for the Kuala Lumpur Southeast
\nAsian (SEA) Games in September.<\/p>\n
TI secretary general Adrian Lumowa said currently strength was
\nevenly distributed among the contingents.<\/p>\n
\"Participants from outside Java showed significant
\ndevelopments compared to their Java-based opponents. The juniors
\nalso performed well catching up with their seniors. It just goes
\nto prove that TI's regeneration process is going well.\" (nvn)<\/p>",
