W. Jakarta on the discipline drive<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Prostitutes, hawkers, truck drivers and home
\nowners have all fallen victim to the government's National
\nDiscipline Campaign which has been underway since May.<\/p>\n
The West Jakarta Mayoralty yesterday announced that it has
\ndiscovered more than 900 cases of discipline violations during
\none month of operation, according to Karsidin, the head of the
\nAgency for Public Order.<\/p>\n
The violators include 373 street vendors trading illegally,
\n165 occupants of shanties built on prohibited sites, owners of 12
\nhouses without building permits, five prostitutes, four vagrants,
\n10 trucks drivers breaking road rules and 229 people littering.
\nThere were also 110 cases of banners being raised in improper
\nplaces.<\/p>\n
The street vendors were expelled, the shanties and houses were
\ndemolished, the truck drivers were ticketed, the banners were
\nremoved and in the case of people who littered, they were fined.<\/p>\n
Karsidin said the campaign indicated that the public's
\nobedience to city regulations is still low. (29)<\/p>",
