        "content": "<p>Voting starts in Sabah<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters): Voters in a constituency in Malaysia's<br>\nSabah state went to the polls on Saturday in a by-election for a<br>\nstate assembly seat seen as a test for Prime Minister Mahathir<br>\nMohamad's ruling coalition.<\/p>\n<p>The official Bernama news agency reported a fairly large<br>\nturnout at polling stations in the Likas constituency in the east<br>\nMalaysian state on Borneo Island.<\/p>\n<p>The by-election was called after a court annulled a 1999<br>\nelectoral victory for the ruling National Front coalition because<br>\nthe electoral roll was found to contain the names of non-existent<br>\nvoters.<\/p>\n<p>The by-election will not threaten Mahathir's rule or that of<br>\nhis coalition at either the state or federal levels, where it<br>\nenjoys big majorities, but it is, nevertheless, being seen as a<br>\ntest for the ruling coalition.<\/p>",
