Voting for political parties<\/p>\n

Indonesia is facing a lot of problems now, among other
\nconcerns, ongoing financial woes, the threat of national
\ndisintegration (in Aceh and Papua), and terrorist acts.<\/p>\n
Next year Indonesians will elect their representatives in the
\nPeople's Consultative Assembly and the House of Representatives
\nand also their new president. They are certainly hopeful that the
\nwinning political party will be able to solve the problems that
\nthe nation has been facing.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, some political parties -- that claim to
\nrepresent the workers and socialists -- such as the Popular
\nDemocratic Party (PRD), and some opposition parties led by
\nNational Front for Indonesian Labor Struggle (FNPBI), have
\nexpressed their opposition to the government's policies on
\nsolving economic problems and the problems in Aceh and Papua.<\/p>\n
In fact, Acehnese reportedly support the government's
\nimposition of martial law in their province and the splitting of
\nPapua into more provinces, as the best solution to bridging gaps
\nin social welfare in these regions. The opposition that these
\nparties pose creates difficulties for Indonesia in the
\ninternational arena and has made our internal problems more
\ncomplicated.<\/p>\n
These parties have considered the government's policies in
\nAceh and Papua a violation of human rights, but have failed to
\nsee that it is the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the Free Papua
\nOrganization (OPM) that have actually violated human rights by
\nkilling and intimidating innocent people. I suspect that their
\ncampaigns against the government are only a bid to gain popular
\nsupport. But, it also seems that the community will refrain from
\nsupporting these parties.<\/p>\n
Indonesians are longing for peace and security in their lives.
\nThey will not support political parties that campaign to mobilize
\nthe masses, as mass mobilization will only lead to a harder life.
\nSurely, the people will not vote for political parties that fail
\nto side with them.<\/p>\n
