\u201cAn eruption of Mount Marapi occurred on Tuesday at 19:56 WIB, but\nthe height of the ash column was not observed,\u201d said PGA officer Ahmad\nRifandi in Padang on Tuesday. He noted that the eruption of the volcano,\nwhich stands at 2,891 metres above sea level, was recorded on a\nseismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.1 millimetres and a duration\nof two minutes and 40 seconds.<\/p>\n
Mount Marapi currently remains at Level II (Alert). The Centre for\nVolcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has issued several\nrecommendations for the public to follow. First, all activities within a\nthree-kilometre radius of the volcanic activity centre (Verbeek Crater)\nare prohibited. Second, the PVMBG warned of the potential threat of cold\nlava flows, particularly for communities living along riverbeds\noriginating from the volcano\u2019s peak, a condition that may occur during\nrainfall or the rainy season.<\/p>\n
