Volcanologists watch Mt. Lokon<\/p>\n
MANADO, North Sulawesi: Volcanologists have discovered an
\nextension of a dry spot in Mount Lokon, which is located near
\nthis provincial capital, raising fears of a possible eruption.<\/p>\n
Antara reported on Monday that people living at the foot of
\nthe 1,689-meter volcano -- situated some 25 kilometers from the
\ncapital -- began to smell sulfur and see white smoke emerging
\nfrom the crater despite the onset of the rainy season.<\/p>\n

\nTambunan has warned the public about the increased activity of
\nthe volcano. The office has told residents to be on alert for
\npossible explosions.<\/p>\n
Tambunan said a monitoring team posted in Kakaskasen village
\nnear the volcano is tracking developments on the mountain, which
\nlast exploded in 1991.<\/p>\n
Minahasa Regent Boy Tangkawarouw has declared the volcano
\nclosed for mountaineering activities.<\/p>\n
A Swiss woman Vivian Clavel is believed to have died as a
\nresult of being trapped by lava when the volcano last erupted.
\nHer remains are yet to be discovered.<\/p>\n
Following the disaster, hundreds of villagers were relocated
