TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Education Department in cooperation with the Zyrex Computer Company will develop a computer assembling industry through vocational schools.<\/p>\n
It is targeted to have 200 computer assembling workshops in schools throughout Indonesia.<\/p>\n
During ratification of this cooperation last Friday (6\/6), Directorate General for Elementary and Secondary Education, Suyanto, said the workshops would be used for the students to learn as well as assemble 12,000 personal computers for school needs.<\/p>\n
The workshops will also function as computer repair and distribution centers.<\/p>\n
Initially, 400 computer and network teachers will be trained in Jakarta this month for a week.<\/p>\n
When they return to their schools, they will teach students how to assemble the computer that will be branded as SMK Zyrex.<\/p>\n
There are plans to build workshops in Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Semarang, Makassar, and Medan.<\/p>\n
Students will receive computer competency certificates that can support them in their search for jobs.<\/p>\n
The Director of Vocational Schools, Joko Sutrisno, said that schools have been having difficulties repairing their computers.<\/p>\n
The workshops will help them repairing and maintaining their computers.<\/p>\n
Director of PT Zyrexindo Mandiri Buana Timothy Siddik said the teachers and students will not just able to assembly the computer but also to do it in line with standards.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf their work for today is good, tomorrow should be better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Timothy said he was worried this cooperation would disturb market prices as computers from this cooperation will have cheaper prices.<\/p>\n
But this program will in fact create a new market in the education world.<\/p>\n
\u201cEspecially when it is only sold for a limited market at educational institutions,\u201d said Timothy..<\/p>\n
Directorate Head of the Vocational School Sub Division, Marthen K. Patiung, stated that Rp120 million had been allocated for each school in this program, including 30 computers for learning media.<\/p>\n
