President Soeharto (second right) inspected a fair held at
\nthe Goro wholesale center yesterday evening where the food
\nstalls use coal briquettes to cook food.<\/p>\n
"Using briquettes is cheaper than using gas or kerosene Pak,"
\nsaid food stall owner Ibu Moer. Her stall sells Javanese food.<\/p>\n
Soeharto has campaigned for years for people to use
\nbriquettes.<\/p>\n
The president went to Goro fair to break his fast with eight
\nministers including Coordinating Minister of Production and
\nDistribution Hartarto and Minister of Finance Mar'ie Muhammad.<\/p>\n
Traders at Goro fair told Soeharto that briquettes were more
\neconomical than gas but said gas was easier to use.<\/p>\n
Soeharto took time to inspect the stalls and talk to the
\ntraders.<\/p>\n
One female attendant at a herbal medicine and tonic kiosk
\nblushed when Soeharto asked her about the efficacy of her herbs.<\/p>\n
"They are good for your health Pak," she replied. The kiosk
\nwas selling herbal concoctions designed to strengthen a man's
\nvirility.<\/p>\n
To break his fast Soeharto ordered chicken satay and kerak
\ntelor. Hartarto drank a glass of herbal tonic.<\/p>\n
Also present were Soeharto's son Sigit Harjoyudanto and his
\nwife Elsye, Soeharto's daughter Siti Hediati Herijadi, and timber
\ntycoon Muhammad "Bob" Hasan.<\/p>\n
Goro fair is controlled by Soeharto's youngest son Hutomo
\nMandala Putera. PT Aryo Seto Wijoyo distributes the coal
\nbriquettes nationally, it is partially owned by Sigit. (prb)<\/p>",
