A viral video showing several KRL passengers falling on an escalator\nat platform 6 or 7 of Bekasi Station has prompted an explanation from\nKAI Commuter Indonesia (KCI). The company stated the incident began when\none passenger fell, triggering a domino effect.<\/p>\n
\u2018The incident was caused by a passenger using the escalator on\nplatform 6\/7 at Bekasi Station who fell and hit other passengers\npositioned below them,\u2019 said KCI VP Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda to\ndetikcom on Tuesday (23\/6\/2026).<\/p>\n
Based on the circulating video, a number of passengers can be seen\nholding onto the escalator, while others appear to be stepping off it.\nSeveral sandals and shoes were left behind on the escalator. Officers\nwere also seen assisting passengers on the escalator.<\/p>\n
KCI Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan explained that the incident\nbegan when a station security officer on duty at platform 6\/7 saw a\npassenger lose their balance while using the escalator. The passenger\nthen fell and accidentally hit two other passengers who were behind or\nbelow them. KCI denied that the escalator had malfunctioned.<\/p>\n
\u2018So it was not because the escalator malfunctioned or suddenly moved\nbackwards due to damage or a system error, as has been widely reported,\u2019\nLeza clarified.<\/p>\n
The security officer who witnessed the incident quickly took\nemergency action by pressing the emergency stop button to halt the\nescalator immediately and prevent further unwanted incidents.<\/p>\n
KCI urged passengers to exercise caution when using escalators and\nmanual stairs at stations. The company reaffirmed its commitment to\nsafety and passenger service, ensuring that the escalator was not\nexperiencing any technical issues.<\/p>\n
\u2018We will also continue to ensure that escalator facilities are in\nnormal condition and free from technical disruptions before operating\nfor train passengers,\u2019 Leza said.<\/p>\n
Three people sustained minor injuries in the incident. Station\nofficers promptly evacuated the three passengers using wheelchairs to\nthe Bekasi Station health post for medical treatment. Based on\nexamination by health post staff, the three passengers suffered minor\ninjuries, including bruises and abrasions on their hands, elbows, arms,\nand knees. After receiving first aid and intensive care, their condition\nwas declared improved and stable.<\/p>\n
\u2018We are concerned about the incident experienced by the passengers.\nAll affected passengers have received proper medical treatment and are\ncurrently in stable condition,\u2019 Leza stated.
