The Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) in East Kalimantan has clarified a viral video that appeared to show whole young coconuts as the sole item distributed under the government's Free Nutritious Meals programme at a state primary school.

The Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) at the Gas Alam Badak
Satu Kitchen in East Kalimantan has issued a clarification regarding a
viral video showing the distribution of young coconuts as part of the
Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme at SD Negeri 001 Muara Badak,
which had sparked public debate.

“We affirm that the circulating video does not show the full menu
that we distributed, meaning the information received by the public was
incomplete and gave rise to misunderstanding,” said the Head of SPPG Gas
Alam Badak Satu Kitchen, Abdi Nolima, in Muara Badak, Kutai Kartanegara
Regency, on Tuesday (17 February).

Abdi explained that the 17-second footage widely discussed on social
media accounts showed only one type of menu item without providing the
context of the complete meal received by pupils.

The food distribution activity that attracted public attention was
carried out on Thursday (5 February) within the operational area of the
SPPG Gas Alam Badak Satu Kitchen.

On that day, the kitchen provider actually distributed two types of
food packages simultaneously to pupils in order to meet the established
nutritional standards.

The first package distributed was a light meal or snack consisting of
a whole young coconut, bread with shredded meat topping, a boiled egg,
and packaged milk.

The second package was the main meal comprising white rice, eggs
cooked in soy sauce, flour-battered fried tofu, stir-fried carrot and
corn vegetables, and sliced watermelon.

The video that subsequently went viral was originally documented and
uploaded by the school purely to showcase the pupils’ enthusiasm upon
receiving the food assistance.

However, because the documentation specifically highlighted only the
moment when young coconuts were distributed, the wider public concluded
that the government aid was limited to that fruit alone.

Abdi acknowledged that the use of whole young coconuts was indeed not
a common offering in the MBG programme, making it understandable that
this would trigger various wild speculation when presented without
detailed explanation.

“The incomplete visual narrative in the initial post was the primary
factor that caused the information to develop in a manner inconsistent
with the facts of the distribution that took place on the ground,” said
Abdi.

In response to the controversy that had already erupted in the public
sphere, his office openly conveyed an apology to the entire East
Kalimantan community for the information disturbance.

The SPPG committed to promptly conducting a comprehensive evaluation
of the menu planning system to ensure that the variety of food served is
more easily understood and accepted by the public.
",
