The perpetrators also distributed and cooked\nthe meat of the protected animal. \u201cFrom the results of the arrest at the\nlocation, we found the skeletal remains of the animal and leftover tapir\nmeat that had been cooked by the perpetrators, so it was cooked like\nrica-rica,\u201d said Mesuji Police Chief AKBP Muhammad Firdaus. Firdaus\nstressed that his party had issued an appeal to the public after the\nanimal appeared in the middle of the Trans-Sumatra Highway on Thursday\nmorning. \u201cPreviously, we had appealed to the public not to hunt, let\nalone kill protected animals,\u201d he said. For their actions, the\nperpetrators face charges under Article 40a paragraph 1 letter d of Law\nNumber 32 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Law Number 5 of 1990\nconcerning Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems. \u201cThis\nregulation strictly prohibits capturing, injuring, killing, storing, or\ntrading protected wildlife. The perpetrators are still under\ninvestigation,\u201d said Firdaus.
