        "content": "<p>Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Tegal Customs and Excise has responded to\nthe viral video circulating on social media showing a search of a Madura\nshop for illegal cigarettes, which has led to narratives of alleged\nextortion attempts.<\/p>\n<p>According to the narrative accompanying the viral video, the search\nwas said to have occurred in Balaraja, Tangerang, Banten.<\/p>\n<p>In the approximately 22-second video on platform X, the shop owner is\nseen questioning the reason for the nighttime inspection.<\/p>\n<p>The officers, dressed in customs uniforms, stated that their working\nhours are indeed 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The shop then requested the officers to show their assignment letter.\nAfter that, the video abruptly ends.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the viral video, the Directorate General of Customs\nand Excise (DJBC) has provided clarification.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of the Internal Compliance and Outreach Section of the Tegal\nType Madya Customs Supervision and Service Office Pabean C, Aflachul,\nconfirmed that the two officers in the video are indeed Customs officers\nconducting an inspection in Balamoa Village, not Balaraja.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegarding the inspection activity by Tegal Customs in Balamoa\nVillage (not Balaraja), Tegal Regency, we state that the inspection was\nindeed carried out by Tegal Customs officers as a follow-up to\ninformation from the public regarding suspected illegal cigarette\nshipments,\u201d he said in an official statement, quoted Friday\n(8\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe officers present during the task execution have shown their\nidentities and assignment orders to the building manager\/guard in\naccordance with procedures,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n<p>Customs and Excise has denied the allegations of extortion that\nemerged from the viral video.
