Upon investigation,\nthe image was revealed to be an AI-generated creation by a high school\nstudent. The photo initially spread via WhatsApp group in Desa Makmur\nSP6, Siak, Riau, coinciding with a power cut on Sunday, 24 May 2026. The\nimage depicted a \u2018Pocong\u2019 carrying a machete and approaching residents\u2019\nhomes, causing panic among residents of Pangkalan Kerinci subdistrict.\nPangkalan Kerinci police station investigated the viral photo and found\nit was first disseminated by RH (16), a high school student from Siak\nregency. \u2018We verified the matter with the student, who admitted creating\nthe AI-generated image as a joke and sent it to friends,\u2019 saidPolice\nChief AKp Shilton in a statement on Thursday, 28 May 2026. Shilton added\nthat preventive measures were taken, including a clarificatory video, a\nwritten statement, and monitoring of the individual. \u2018We urge the public\nnot to readily believe or disseminate unverified information, especially\nthat which incites public unrest,\u2019 he added.
