VIP photos adorn MPR building<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Documentary pictures began to adorn the People's
\nConsultative Assembly building on the eve of its Annual Session
\non Wednesday, with photos of founding president Sukarno
\noutnumbering those of his predecessors.<\/p>\n
Of 125 photos on display, Sukarno is seen in 19, including the
\nmonumental picture of the declaration of independence on Aug. 17.
\n1945.<\/p>\n
There are 13 photos of incumbent President Megawati
\nSoekarnoputri, who is Sukarno's daughter, eight of fourth
\npresident Abdurrahman Wahid, two of third president B.J. Habibie
\nand six of Soeharto, who ruled the country for 32 years.<\/p>\n
The pictures, selected by the National Information Institute
\n(LIN), are on display in the MPR lobby.<\/p>\n
Soeharto, as chief of the Army's Strategic Reserves Command
\n(Kostrad), is also portrayed in one of 13 photos related to the
\nabortive coup attempt blamed on the Indonesian Communist Party
\n(PKI) in 1965.<\/p>\n
Apart from the VIP pictures, LIN is exhibiting nine
\ndocumentary photos taken during the first election in 1955. The
\ntext that accompanies the pictures refers to the top three
\nparties, but not PKI, which finished fourth. --JP.<\/p>",
