Violent winds destroy houses<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Dozens of houses were damaged and trees uprooted
\nin Jatiasih, Bekasi, when a violent storm with strong winds and
\nheavy rain struck the area for 30 minutes on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
No fatalities were reported.<\/p>\n
The storm struck houses suddenly in the Pondok Gede Permai
\nHousing Complex at around 4 p.m., Antara reported on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Residents were panicked and left screaming for help as their
\nasbestos roofs were destroyed by the winds, with roof tiles
\nflying off or smashed by falling trees.<\/p>\n
Several big trees around the housing complex fell onto
\nelectricity poles and cables.<\/p>\n
A 25-meter high radio antenna owned by one resident named
\nDhani fell onto his house. A satellite dish was also seen falling
\ndown and breaking into pieces.<\/p>\n
A resident named Kamidi said that his house was damaged when
\nhis neighbor's asbestos roof flew off and crashed into his.<\/p>\n
Rain poured in, flooding the whole house.<\/p>\n
"I was very shocked. Suddenly, there was a loud sound from
\nabove my roof and my wife was screaming for help," he said.<\/p>\n
Several houses in Pondok Benda village, Jatiasih, were also
\ndamaged.<\/p>\n
The storm also damaged several houses at Bojong Menteng,
\nRawalumbu and Jakasetia at Pekayon, which are also located in
\nBekasi.<\/p>\n
After the storm subsided, residents began fixing their roofs
\nand clearing away trees which blocked the streets.
