        "content": "<p>Violence-hit regency still tense<\/p>\n<p>MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Tension still engulfed the newly<br>\ncreated regency of Mamasa, some 380 kilometers from the South<br>\nSulawesi capital of Makassar, on Thursday after three deaths in<br>\nattacks by rival villagers.<\/p>\n<p>The attacks took place on Monday and Tuesday, and involved<br>\nthose supporting and those opposing the division of Polewali<br>\nMamasa (Polmas) into two regencies -- Polewali and Mamasa.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, both opponents and supporters remained on guard<br>\nin their own villagers after widespread rumors that revenge<br>\nattacks were imminent, South Sulawesi Police chief Insp. Gen.<br>\nJusuf Manggabarani said.<\/p>\n<p>\"However, the security situation is improving,\" he claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Jusuf said security forces had established roadblocks in the<br>\nareas between the feuding villages.<\/p>\n<p>The roadblocks were aimed at preventing the possibility of<br>\nfurther attacks.<\/p>\n<p>At least three opponents of the split have been beaten to<br>\ndeath by the split's supporters, and another person has been<br>\nmissing since Monday. --JP<\/p>",
