Violation of human rights<\/p>\n

Following the financial fiasco of the Golden Key Group, owned
\nby tycoon Eddy Tansil, the Kanindotex Group, led by businessman
\nRobby Tjahyadi took its turn in grabbing media headlines.<\/p>\n
After these events I am increasingly concerned about human
\nrights implementation in Indonesia. Although the 1945
\nConstitution enshrines human rights, there have been, at least,
\nviolations.<\/p>\n
Samples of such violations are around us a great deal. One of
\nthem is the government's discrimination against the offsprings of
\nformer communist political prisoners (PKI). These children may
\nhave only known about PKI from history books and they should not
\nhave been branded as not having a clear \"environment\".<\/p>\n
What about Robby Tjahyadi, a former luxury car smuggler, who
\nwas imprisoned in the past for inflicting huge losses on the
\nstate coffers. What is more sickening is the fact that after he
\nwas freed, he managed to appoint General (ret.) Sumitro as a
\ncommissary in his company. Eventually he went down due to the bad
\ncredit case.<\/p>\n
Seeing the issue from this perspective I wonder whether our
\ndiscrimination against the children of the former political
\ndetainees is justified. Those children seem to inherit the sin of
\ntheir parents. Do we recognize hereditary sin?<\/p>\n
We have to remain wary about extreme leftist and rightist
\nelements but we should never treat the children and the grand
\nchildren of former political prisoners the way we do now.<\/p>\n
