Villages tense after clash kills one<\/p>\n

Tension engulfed on Tuesday two villages in Kuala subdistrict,
\nLangkat regency, North Sumatra, after clashes involving rival
\ngangs there were responsible for the death of at least one person
\nand another who was seriously injured.<\/p>\n
Most residents in the villages of Namu Belin and Beruam chose
\nto stay home all day for fear of being attacked by feuding gangs.<\/p>\n
Police deployed personnel to ensure security in the two
\nvillages and prevent the violence from spreading.<\/p>\n
\"I have instructed all subdistrict police chiefs in Langkat to
\nimmediately confiscate all sharp weapons,\" Langkat Police chief
\nAdj. Sr. Comr. Arman Depari told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
He said the police would \"raid\" each village in search of
\nweaponry.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Monday evening, Budiman Ginting alias Bogel, a 25-
\nyear-old man from Beruam, was killed in one of the clashes with
\nthe Namu Mbelin fighters.<\/p>\n
Tinus Sitepu, 22, from Namu Mbelin was seriously wounded in
\nthe brawl, which erupted on Kuala-Bahorok street at around 7 p.m.
\nHe is being treated at Pirngadi hospital in Medan, for stab
\nwounds in the leg and chest.<\/p>\n
The death of Budiman incited anger among his friends from
\nBeruam, who then vowed to take revenge by attacking the men from
\nNamu Mbelin.<\/p>\n
Fears of further violence sparked tension among local
\nresidents and others in neighboring villages across Kuala
\nsubdistrict.<\/p>\n
Arman, who visited the area, said he had arranged a meeting
\nwith local community and gang leaders to stop the fighting.<\/p>\n
Kuala Police chief First Insp. Darwin Sitepu said his
\ndetectives were searching for the people blamed for the death of
\nBudiman, adding that at least two suspects from Beruam had
\nalready been arrested.<\/p>\n
He said the police had also found several sharp weapons at the
\nscene as evidence in the investigation.<\/p>\n
It remained unclear what caused the brawl. Arman did say that
\nthere were other issues in the past between the two gangs.<\/p>",
