        "content": "<p>Villagers seek redress for attacks<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): At least 50 residents of Sumur Batu village in<br>\nCiteureup district, Bogor, visited the Jakarta Legal Aid<br>\nInstitute (LBH) on Monday seeking legal advice after allegedly<br>\nbeing assaulted by security guards from the Royal Sentul housing<br>\ncomplex.<\/p>\n<p>The residents' spokesman, Ubaidillah, said at least seven<br>\nresidents, identified as Okto Wibowo, Saepudin, Asmuni, Apudin,<br>\nSudin, Asep and Memed, suffered injuries due to repeated beatings<br>\non Apr. 27.<\/p>\n<p>\"We had told the guards that we wanted a peaceful settlement<br>\nover a dispute with the developer of the housing complex, but<br>\nthey continued attacking us,\" said Ubaidillah, an executive of<br>\nthe Al-Mujahidin Islamic boarding school, located near the<br>\nhousing complex.<\/p>\n<p>The dispute occurred after the developer reportedly blocked<br>\nthe main access route to the village through the residential<br>\narea.<\/p>\n<p>The firm apparently used bulldozers to dump soil around the<br>\nentrance of the road to prevent the villagers from passing<br>\nthrough.<\/p>\n<p>Ubaidillah said the guards drove a truck recklessly to<br>\nfrighten the residents, adding that the guards were equipped with<br>\nswords and wooden sticks.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Asmuni, a teacher at the boarding school, said three<br>\nsecurity guards held their swords to his neck, causing injuries.<\/p>\n<p>He said his son Asep was beaten and kicked by the security<br>\nguards when he tried to help his father.<\/p>\n<p>Another man, Okto, said that he was beaten at the scene before<br>\nbeing questioned at the housing complex office by security guards<br>\nand two military officers.
