Villagers protest test decision<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): As many as 200 residents of Waru Induk village in
\nParung district here staged a demonstration at the local council
\nyesterday after their favorite candidate for village head failed
\na selection test.<\/p>\n
The head of administrative affairs for Bogor regency, Adjat
\nSudradjat, said the protesters' candidate, Jajang alias Enjang,
\n45, scored a 48 on the test -- seven points lower than the
\nrequired score of 55.<\/p>\n
The villagers, however, did not accept Adjat's explanation.<\/p>\n
\"I don't understand how a sympathetic man like him (Enjang)
\ncould fail in the test. He's very friendly and amiable,\" Wijoyo,
\none of Enjang's supporters, said.<\/p>\n
\"If a resident is sick, he would help take him or her to the
\nhospital. If not, he would give some money to the sick person's
\nfamily for transportation.\"<\/p>\n
Enjang is a security officer at Parung market and the captain
\nof the village soccer team.<\/p>\n
According to Mahpudin, another resident, three candidates were
\nvying for the position -- Suheri, the former village head, Enjang
\nand Chaerudin.<\/p>\n
Only Enjang failed the test.<\/p>\n
\"Seventy-five percent of the 5,800 residents who have the
\nright to vote will support him for the post.<\/p>\n
\"Thus, we want to meet the regent and ask him to review the
\ndecision,\" Mahpudin said.<\/p>\n
Sutisna, another resident, accused the test officials of
\ncollusion with the other two candidates.<\/p>\n
Enjang, he said, was nominated for village head eight years
\nago after passing a similar test. At that time, however, he
\nfailed to garner enough votes in the election.<\/p>\n
\"The requirements for village head are the same from time to
\ntime. There must be foul play here,\" he said.<\/p>\n
According to Adjat, Enjang was among 60 candidates who failed
