Villagers protest blockade<\/p>\n
BEKASI, West Java (JP): More than 100 residents in the Kebalen
\ndistrict gathered yesterday to protest a housing developer who
\nhas fenced in an 8,000-square-meter plot and blocked passage on a
\nlocal road.<\/p>\n
\"The developer, PT Halim Gesit Mandiri, has blocked the road
\nfor the construction of the Taman Kebalen Indah housing estate,\"
\na community leader, Suganda, told The Jakarta Post yesterday.<\/p>\n
He said he believed that the developer might have bought the
\nland from unauthorized parties.<\/p>\n
The protesters were eventually persuaded to return to their
\nhomes after the Kebalen district head, Martani, and a manager
\nfrom the developer explained that the company has not bought or
\noccupied the land.<\/p>\n
Martani said the protest was a result of \"misinformation\" and
\nadmitted that he forgot to put up an announcement about the
\ntemporary fence.<\/p>\n
The management gave its assurance that everyone would be
\nallowed to pass through the fence whenever necessary.<\/p>\n
Martani told the Post after the protest that the developer
\nbuilt the fence to protect building materials.<\/p>\n
Martani said the land is owned by the late K.H. Noer Ali, a
