Village objects to homeless camp<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): Hundreds of homeless people have taken up
\nresidence in Kampung Tegal Lega in Ciheuleut Bawah village ahead
\nof the festive season in December, prompting residents'
\ncomplaints as some have allegedly committed criminal offenses in
\nthe area.<\/p>\n
\"People of Ciheuleut have complained that some of the
\nindigents have stolen laundry, cook stoves, even electronic
\nstuff,\" Opik Hidayat, 26, chief of the community, said.<\/p>\n
Most of the homeless people have come from towns in Java such
\nas Sukabumi and Cianjur in West Java, Cirebon and Surakarta in
\nCentral Java and Surabaya in East Java.<\/p>\n
\"Their presence is disturbing because they have no sanitary
\nfacilities, disrupt public order and litter the environment,\" he
\nsaid, adding that the group used Cialuk river as toilet.<\/p>\n
Local social agency chief Achmad Adjiji said the homeless
\npeople have been living in an empty plot in the village since
\n1985, and their numbers have been growing ever since.<\/p>\n
\"We have tried to stop them from being beggars but their
\nnumbers are large,\" he said, adding that the agency in
\ncooperation with local Gessang Ghosyiaary Foundation have
\nassisted the homeless to quit their activities and to find jobs
