Vietnam, S'pore strengthen ties<\/p>\n
HANOI (Reuter): The prime ministers of Vietnam and Singapore
\nhave pledged to strengthen ties and cooperation in several areas,
\nthe Vietnam News Agency said yesterday on the first full day of a
\nvisit by Singapore's Goh Chok Tong.<\/p>\n
\"The two leaders compared notes in an open-hearted and frank
\natmosphere, focusing on measures to further promote ties between
\nthe two countries as well as regional and international issues of
\ncommon concern,\" VNA said.<\/p>\n
Goh and his Vietnamese counterpart, Vo Van Kiet, agreed at
\ntheir meeting in Ho Chi Minh City to promote conditions to boost
\nbilateral investment, trading and cooperation, the official news
\nagency said.<\/p>\n
Goh's visit underlined Singaporean business interest in
\nVietnam and government ties that were reinforced last year when
\nthe communist country joined the Association of Southeast Asian
\nNations (ASEAN), of which Singapore was a founder.<\/p>",
